What a price means

A price is what a player gives you above the player you could grab off waivers for free. Two players with matching prices are a fair trade. And a price near zero does not mean a player is bad. It means you could replace him for nothing.

Value runs out at a different rank for every position. That is why an elite tight end costs so much.

The model builds its own projection for every player, then turns it into a price. In plain terms, it looks at:

• On the field. Points, snaps, routes, carries, targets.
• His role. His share of the offense, and whether it is growing or shrinking.
• Draft consensus. Where drafts valued him before the season. This matters a lot in September and fades as real games pile up.
• Injuries. Who is out, who is coming back, and who inherits the work in the meantime.
• His team. How good the offense is, and what Vegas expects from its games.
• Hype. A small signal from league adds and drops, capped so it can never outweigh the football.

Prices recompute every Tuesday after the week's games. Every move is stored with the reason it happened, on Movers and under every player's name.
