The Eagles have ruled Hurts out for Sunday's game against the Panthers after a follow-up ultrasound performed on his calf Wednesday revealed movement in a small blood clot, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
According to a statement from the team, Hurts requested treatment for his calf following practice Oct. 8, a few days after he had been cleated in the leg during the team's Week 4 loss to the Rams. He underwent an initial ultrasound Saturday following the Eagles' flight to London, with imaging revealing the superficial blood clot. After the results of the ultrasound were reviewed, doctors determined that Hurts could safely play in the Eagles' eventual 19-17 loss to the Jaguars. However, after practicing fully Wednesday to kick off Week 6 prep, the quarterback was sent in for a follow-up ultrasound, which showed movement in the blood clot. As a result, the Eagles have elected to hold Hurts out of action for at least one game, with backup Tanner McKee now primed to start against the Panthers. Since the Eagles are still in the process of determining the appropriate course of treatment for Hurts, his status beyond Week 6 is uncertain at the moment.

Above the line the plan was to throw; below it, to run.
Hurts will face the Jaguars in Sunday's Week 5 matchup in London without Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith because of their respective hamstring injuries, Tim McManus of ESPN.com reports.
Hurts, who was listed on Friday's injury report with a calf injury but was still a full participant in the day's session, is already coming off having thrown for a season-low 93 yards while completing just 12 of 27 passes in the Week 4 loss to the Rams. Smith missed that game as well, and Hurts will now have to also manage the absence of his top running back in Week 5. However, Hurts does stand to benefit from the return of tight end Dallas Goedert, who managed a full practice Friday and doesn't have an injury designation following a two-game absence due to a knee injury.

Hurts completed 14 of 25 pass attempts for 203 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 24-22 win against the Commanders. He added seven carries for 46 yards on the ground.
Hurts wasn't particularly efficient, but he made big completions when needed, including a 17-yard connection with Dallas Goedert in the second quarter, a nine-yard TD pass to Dontayvion Wicks later in the same period and another scoring pass to Goedert -- this time a 43-yarder -- in the fourth. Hurts also boosted his fantasy total on the ground with 46 yards, which was well above his average during the regular season last year. Hurts is playing under a new offense this season, and the veteran QB's Week 1 results were mostly promising. The Eagles should be a heavy favorite next Sunday against a Tennessee team that struggled mightily in a Week 1 loss to the Jets.
The QBs priced immediately above and below him.
