Conner (foot) is "getting close" to practicing, but the Cardinals aren't expected to open his 21-day evaluation window this week, John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM reports.
Conner's 2025 season was cut short due to a right foot injury that he addressed with surgery, but he was cleared to take part in practices at the start of training camp. However, he didn't end up mixing into team drills at any point in August before the Cardinals placed him on injured reserve with a designation to return to begin the season. Though Conner has seemingly made progress in his recovery from the start of the season, the Cardinals are unlikely to rush him back into action with three other running backs (Jeremiyah Love, Tyler Allgeier and Bam Knight) already on the 53-man roster. Gambardoro suggests that the Cardinals may be viewing Conner as more of an insurance policy in the backfield, and it's not out of the question for the veteran to get moved ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline if the team doesn't have a need for him once he's fully healthy.

Conner continues to deal with complications from the foot injury that ended his 2025 campaign Week 3 of last season. Initially, when Arizona didn't place him on the active/PUP list at the start of training camp, it was an indication that he had a chance to be available Week 1. Instead, Conner will be required to miss at least the first four games following this transaction. Considering rookie third overall pick Jeremiyah Love's status is up in the air due to a high-ankle sprain, Tyler Allgeier may be the team's lead runner in the early going, with Bam Knight backing him up.
Above the line the plan was to throw; below it, to run.

Dan Graziano of ESPN.com believes that the Cardinals will likely move Conner ahead of the Nov. 3 trade deadline.
Conner rushed for 1,000-plus yards in both 2023 and 2024 before suffering a season-ending foot injury in Week 3 of the 2025 campaign. Arizona bolstered its depth at running back by signing Tyler Allgeier in free agency before using the third-overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft to select Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love. Trey Benson is also in the mix for backfield reps, so Graziano believes that teams in need of a veteran running back -- such as the Giants and Bengals -- will call the Cardinals to inquire about Conner well ahead of the Nov. 3 trade deadline.
The RBs priced immediately above and below him.
