Perine turned three carries into nine yards and caught one pass on three targets for five yards during the Bengals' 30-27 loss to the Steelers on Sunday. He also returned one kickoff for 26 yards.
Perine saw most of his offensive output in the first half and was limited to only one carry for zero gain in the second. His 18 offensive snaps were well behind Chase Brown's 40, and Perine figures to be limited to a rotational role in the Bengals' backfield this season unless Brown were to miss time. The Bengals will head home to host the Jaguars in Week 4.
Perine (illness) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at Houston.
Perine missed practice Thursday and Friday, but he's apparently made enough progress with his illness to convince the team that he'll be fine to play. He took five carries for 20 yards and three catches for 30 yards in a 33-27 win over Tampa Bay in Week 1.
Perine (knee) was listed as a non-participant at the Bengals' practice Thursday.
Perine was added to the injury report with an apparent knee injury after opening the week without a listed practice status Wednesday. The running back turned five carries into 20 yards and reeled in all three of his targets for 30 yards during the team's 33-27 win over the Buccaneers in Week 1, but he may have suffered a knee injury at some point during the contest. Perine will have another chance to practice Friday, but if he can't go Sunday against Houston, Tahj Brooks would stand to operate as the team's primary backup option behind Chase Brown in Cincinnati's backfield.
Above the line the plan was to throw; below it, to run.

Perine has less competition for complementary snaps behind Chase Brown due to the release of fellow veteran Zack Moss on Wednesday, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
Perine returned to Cincinnati this offseason after having played with the Bengals from 2020-22. The veteran back is most valued for his pass-catching contributions, but had Moss been healthy and on the roster, there's no question he'd have caused a hit to Perine's playing time to some degree. As it now stands, Perine appears to have a clear path to unquestioned No. 2 duties behind Brown to begin the season.
