inherits 2% of KC targets (39% vacated, his claim 6%)
Allen failed to reel in his only target in Sunday's 30-27 win over the Raiders.
Allen went without a reception for the fourth straight contest to open his NFL career. The wide receiver impressed during the preseason, but he has yet to make his mark during the regular season. Allen could be set for an expanded role following the team's Week 5 bye week, though, as both Rashee Rice (hamstring) and Tyquan Thornton (ankle) suffered injuries against Las Vegas, the latter of which is season-ending.
Allen did not catch his only target during Monday night's 31-10 win over Denver.
Allen played only one snap on offense, failing to build off of the momentum he had built for himself in the preseason. The wide receiver was also on the field for four snaps with the special-teams unit. Allen appears to be a firm No. 4 option behind Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy and Tyquan Thornton at wideout ahead of the team's matchup with the Colts in Week 2.
Allen is listed as a backup receiver on Kansas City's unofficial depth chart ahead of Monday's season opener versus the Broncos, Charles Goldsmith of AtoZSports.com reports.
A rookie fifth-round pick out of Cincinnati, Allen generated plenty of positive buzz in training camp and the preseason, but he doesn't appear to have a path to meaningful playing time heading into Week 1. Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy are locked in as the clear top two options on the depth chart, but Allen could eventually push Tyquan Thornton for the No. 3 spot. Thornton possesses more speed of the two and found some success as a vertical threat in Andy Reid's scheme last season, but Allen offers a more diverse route tree and could be a higher-volume target earner if Rice or Worthy were to miss time.
Above the line the plan was to throw; below it, to run.
The WRs priced immediately above and below him.
