Dillon had been in a preseason battle with Trevor Etienne for the third spot on the depth chart, but Etienne was placed on injured reserve with a designation to return due to an ankle injury, ruling Etienne out for the first four weeks of the regular season. Chuba Hubbard is recovering from a hamstring injury, while Jonathon Brooks is dealing with general soreness. Both running backs could be back by Week 1, but Dillon would be in line for at least change-of-pace work if either Hubbard or Brooks misses any action.
Dillon carried the ball six times for 12 yards and caught three of four passes for 20 yards in Friday's 16-13 preseason win over the Texans.
