The Cowboys signed Abanikanda from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.
Abanikanda joined up with the Cowboys' practice squad after being waived by the team Aug. 30. Abanikanda could make his 49ers debut Thursday against the Rams, as coach Kyle Shanahan said after Sunday's 38-13 win over the Bears that Isaac Guerendo has a possible foot sprain, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
If Guerendo's unable to play Thursday, the 49ers would likely go with a combination of Patrick Taylor, Ke'Shawn Vaughn and Abanikanda in the backfield against the Rams. Abanikanda was inactive against Chicago after being claimed off waivers from the Jets, while Taylor backed up Guerendo prior to Guerendo's injury and Vaughn was elevated from the practice squad.
