inherits 6% of PIT targets (56% vacated, his claim 10%)
Bernard and return specialist Kaden Wetjen are the only wide receivers on Pittsburgh's active roster without injury designations for Week 6.
Bernard played 93 percent of snaps in a Week 5 win over Indianapolis, catching six passes for 80 yards on a team-high nine targets. He now projects for a similar workload, at least in terms of playing time, as the Steelers are still without Michael Pittman (IR - foot) and now have Roman Wilson (finger) and Ben Skowronek (calf) ruled out for Week 6. What's more, DK Metcalf is listed as questionable after missing Friday's practice with an illness. Metcalf may not be at his best even if he's able to play, and there's otherwise minimal target competition for Bernard in the WR room. The Steelers figure to deploy multi-TE formations early and often to avoid relying too heavily on practice-squad callups at WR like Brandon Johnson or Isaiah Hodgins.
Bernard caught six of nine targets for 90 yards during Sunday's 34-22 win over the Colts.
Bernard led the team in targets while notching six catches and 80 receiving yards, both of which were new career highs. The rookie was operating in a more prominent role with fellow wideout Michael Pittman (foot) on injured reserve, and Roman Wilson suffered a finger injury Sunday, so Bernard may see even more opportunities moving forward. Through five games this season, he has caught 20 of 33 targets for 278 yards and two touchdowns.
Above the line the plan was to throw; below it, to run.
Bernard caught both of his targets for 11 yards during the Steelers' 27-24 loss to the Browns on Thursday.
Bernard was not targeted by Aaron Rodgers until late in the fourth quarter, with the duo connecting on passes for six and five yards to help set up a three-yard touchdown catch by Pat Freiermuth after the two-minute warning. The rookie second-rounder was on the field for 29 of the Steelers' 72 offensive snaps (40.3 percent), which was third most among wide receivers behind DK Metcalf (70) and Michael Pittman (52) and ahead of Roman Wilson (22). Bernard has a 7-60-0 line on 11 targets through four regular-season games, though his role in the offense will be limited behind Metcalf, Pittman, Freiermuth, Darnell Washington and Jaylen Warren. The Steelers head back home for Week 5 against the Colts on Sunday, Oct. 11.
Bernard is set to be the No. 3 option at wide receiver in Sunday's game against the Patriots, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports.
The second-round rookie will have his first opportunity as a starting member of the Steelers offense due to Michael Pittman (foot) being ruled out ahead of the contest. Bernard saw just three offensive snaps in the team's Week 1 win over the Falcons, a number that should skyrocket in Week 2.
The WRs priced immediately above and below him.
