Montgomery (abdomen) was placed on injured reserve by the Colts on Sunday, JJ Stankevitz of the team's official website reports.
Montgomery signed with the team in early August, ultimately reeling in two of three targets for 21 yards during the preseason. The wide receiver appears to have picked up an abdominal injury at some point during the preseason, and he is now set to miss the entire 2026 campaign while on IR, unless he reaches an injury settlement with Indianapolis.
The Colts signed Montgomery to a contract Sunday.

Montgomery could see an increased snap count as the third wideout behind Alec Pierce and Josh Downs after Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reported Saturday that Michael Pittman experienced additional concussion symptoms and was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Falcons.
Montgomery was thrust into a more prominent role in the Colts' Week 15 win over the Steelers after Pittman was taken out of the game following a hit to the head by safety Damonte Kazee. Montgomery had spent the previous three games solely on special teams but played 41 offensive snaps and finished with two catches on four targets for 48 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown pass from Gardner Minshew. Montgomery previously spent most of the season on the Colts' practice squad and was signed to the team's 53-man roster Dec. 14.
