Neal (hamstring) signed a contract with the Vikings' practice squad Wednesday, Rob Kleifield of the team's official site reports.
New Orleans waived Neal in early September on an injury settlement while the second-year running back tended to a hamstring issue, but he appears to have since made a full recovery. After working out with Minnesota on Tuesday, Neal quickly landed a contract, improving the organization's depth at running back while Jordan Mason (thumb) is on injured reserve. As a rookie last season, Neal appeared in 10 games for the Saints, carrying 57 times for 206 yards (3.6 average) and two touchdowns while adding 17 receptions for 104 yards on 19 targets.
The Saints waived Neal (hamstring) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Thursday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Neal picked up a hamstring injury in early August, and while he returned to practice Aug. 19 and suited up for preseason Week 2 on Aug. 22, he left that contest due to a likely aggravation of that issue, ending up on IR on cut-down day. The terms of his injury settlement aren't known, but once they're met, he'll be eligible to sign with a team.
Above the line the plan was to throw; below it, to run.

Neal is poised to open the season no higher than third on New Orleans' running back depth chart, as Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Alvin Kamara agreed to terms Thursday on a restructured contract with the Saints that gives Kamara a $6 million base salary for the 2026 season.
New Orleans went into the offseason with an uncertain running back situation, as Kamara was set to carry an unpalatably high cap hit. The Saints subsequently signed Travis Etienne to a four-year deal and agreed to a restructured contract with Kamara, leaving Neal to compete with Kendre Miller for the third spot on the depth chart. Neal started in the last three appearances of his rookie season after Kamara suffered a season-ending knee injury, but the 2025 sixth-round pick then sustained a season-ending hamstring injury of his own, joining Kamara and Miller, who tore his ACL in Week 7, on injured reserve.
The RBs priced immediately above and below him.
