Kirk (calf) remained limited in Friday's practice, Harrison Rich of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Kirk had his 21-day practice window opened Thursday, as he's eyeing a potential return from injured reserve Monday night against the Commanders. The 49ers will make a decision on his potential activation Saturday, so there will be a better idea of his Week 6 availability in the next 24 hours. Kirk's return would be a boost to an injury-ravaged San Francisco wideout room.

Kirk (calf) was limited in his return to practice Thursday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
The 49ers opened Kirk's practice window to return from injured reserve Thursday, which came only days after head coach Kyle Shanahan told Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com on Monday that the wide receiver was "unlikely" to practice this week. The team may have been spurred by the fact No. 1 WR Mike Evans is dealing with Achilles soreness in addition to sore ribs and Deebo Samuel's impending multi-week absence due to a strained right hamstring. In any case, San Francisco now has 21 days in which to evaluate Kirk before making a decision to bring him back to the active roster, but it remains uncertain if he has a chance to play Monday versus the Commanders.
Above the line the plan was to throw; below it, to run.

Kirk, who signed a one-year deal with the 49ers in March, has yet to play this preseason due to a calf injury and has seen rookie second-round pick De'Zhaun Stribling make a strong impression thus far this summer, per Brooke Evans of the team's official site.
Kirk has played in only 33 of a possible 51 regular-season games since the start of the 2023 campaign due to an assortment of injuries, and he's recorded less than 30 receptions and 400 receiving yards in each of the last two seasons. Kirk's deal is for a relatively modest $6 million, and the lingering injury has allowed Stribling to see additional reps in the first two preseason games while recording a combined 11 receptions for 109 yards on 13 targets.
